"A MUST READ"

"If you are thinking about moving to New Zealand, this is a must read! This book is a fair, honest resource that thoroughly covers the positives and, yes, some of the negatives of moving to New Zealand. I also recommend that your extended family read it so that they have a better understanding of why you have decided to make the journey." - Steve J.  (Wellington / Washington D.C.)

"I LEARNED ALOT"

"The afterword [of this book] really touched me, especially because it is not just applicable to Ameri-Kiwis, but to every person who has left their country. I can relate to it so much. I also learned alot of new things about America." - Johanna M., creator of the hanna_worldwide&friends podcast

"HELPED PUT ME AT EASE"

As a small town Wyoming native about to travel to New Zealand, I had a lot of questions, including "Is this crazy?" So, You Want to Move to New Zealand helped put me at ease, answered my questions, stoked my excitement, and taught me useful local phrases. It imparted insider info and illuminated so many areas of expat life in Aotearoa, all with good wit and humor, realism about NZ's challenges, and a clear love of the author's chosen home. This book shares information about cost of living, areas to explore, banking, food, coffee (a larger part of the New Zealand experience than I realized), government, driving, schools, US expat taxes (lots of great stuff here), and work-life balance. I'm grateful to have been able to read this primer before I disembark for New Zealand (and stock up on shoes in America!) and highly suggest this book for everyone considering a move to New Zealand!" - Miles Y. (Wyoming)

Melissa Cox is the author of the 2023 book So, You Want to Move to New Zealand. She moved to Aotearoa in 2014 with her husband with nothing but two suitcases, her guitar, and a dream.

Melissa was inspired to write the book to help other Americans expats acclimate to life in the land of the long white cloud.

"I met dozens of Americans who had moved to New Zealand and struggled with things like expat taxes, navigating the housing and healthcare systems, and making friends," she explains. "I realized that, by writing a book, I could share my knowledge to help Americans adapt to life here."

Melissa graduated with a B.A. in English (concentration: journalism) and a minor in Women's Studies. Before moving to New Zealand, she worked as a journalist, ghost writer, PR specialist, and vice president of marketing.

Now a dual citizen of the USA and New Zealand, Melissa lives in Tauranga with her husband and Ameri-Kiwi son. She enjoys gardening, creating music, traveling, and planning social events for other American expats.
